It stands out with its simple beauty and calm atmosphere - almost like it’s quietly inviting you to pause for a moment and step inside. That’s the Church of Saint Spyridon and Saint Panteleimon - a modest little place with a peaceful charm. Just a few steps from the sand and water, it offers a different kind of quiet than the beach. The Church of Saint Spyridon and Saint Panteleimon is part of the Parish of the Presentation of the Lord (Υπαπαντής του Κυρίου) and falls under the Holy Metropolis of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki, which oversees churches in the region. It’s a small chapel, not the main parish church, but services are still held here regularly - especially during summer and on special religious holidays.
A Bit of History and Style
The chapel dates back to the post-Byzantine era and reflects the traditional architecture of the Attica region. It’s a simple one-room structure with a wooden, tiled roof and a small bell tower topped with a cross. The building is about 6 by 10 meters in size. Inside, it’s clean and bright, with modern icons and two entrances - one in the west, and a side door to the south.
In June 1989, the chapel was fully restored, thanks to support from the parish, the local municipality, and the community. The roof was repaired, new frescoes were added, and a covered entrance was built. A board outside displays the current schedule of services.
Yes, Services Are Held Here
Though small, the church is very much alive. Masses, evening prayers, confessions, and other services take place regularly. The schedule is always up to date and posted near the entrance. Services are led by priests from the main parish.
