If you're visiting Artemida and want to recycle your plastic bottles and cans - or if you're a local resident who's interested in responsible waste sorting - this guide will help you take part in the city's **reward-based recycling system** . Whether you're staying for a few days or you live here permanently, you can now recycle and **earn rewards** through a convenient and environmentally friendly program.

**About the Program**
---------------------

The city of Artemida is part of the environmental initiative **"Give Value to Your Waste"** , organized by the **Municipality of Spata - Artemida** in collaboration with the **Region of Attica** . The project is part of a broader strategy to support recycling and circular economy practices and is **co-funded by European resources.**

The main goal is to encourage more people to recycle by offering a **small financial incentive** for each properly sorted and returned item.

**How the Reward System Works**
-------------------------------

This system uses special machines - known locally as "Recycling Houses" - where you can return clean and intact recyclable items. For every **33 accepted plastic, metal, or glass containers** , you will receive a **voucher worth 1 euro**.

In Artemida, these vouchers can be redeemed at the **local AB Vasilopoulos supermarket**.

**Important:** Vouchers **can only be used starting the next calendar day** after they are issued. They are **not valid for same-day redemption**.

**Where to Recycle in Artemida**
--------------------------------

One of the main recycling stations in Artemida is located on **Ypapantis Street** , right next to the **municipal playground and skatepark** in the Loutsa area. This station is equipped with a modern reverse vending machine and is easily accessible to the public.

The machine is available for use **every day (**except on Sundays), during the opening hours of nearby public areas. A staff member is always on site to assist users - whether tourists or locals - by providing instructions, answering questions, and helping sort and feed materials into the machine correctly. This ensures the process runs smoothly and that every recycled item is properly counted toward your reward.

**How to Prepare Items for Recycling**
--------------------------------------

To make sure your items are accepted by the machine and count toward your voucher, follow these simple guidelines:

* All containers must be **clean and completely empty** . If a bottle previously contained milk, juice, or another drink, it must be **rinsed with water** before recycling.

* Containers must not be **crushed or deformed**. The machine uses shape and barcode recognition, so flattened bottles or cans may be rejected.

* **Plastic bottles must have their caps removed**. Also remove any safety seals or rings around the neck of the bottle if possible.

Only plastic, metal, and glass containers are accepted - no paper, cardboard, or general waste.

**Why Participate?**
--------------------

By joining this program, you help reduce waste, promote sustainable practices, and take part in a community-wide effort to protect the environment. The reward system is a simple but effective way to encourage proper recycling habits and even a small incentive can make a big difference in building awareness.

This initiative helps ensure that recycling isn't just a personal choice, but a shared responsibility. Whether you're here temporarily or long-term, **you can be part of the solution**.

**Recycle right - give value to your waste - protect our planet.**
