From Syntagma to the Beach? Here's How to Reach the Sea from the Heart of Athens in Under 90 Minutes!

Dreaming of a quick escape from the busy streets of Athens? In just under an hour and a half, you can swap the noise and traffic for golden sand, sea breeze, and a coffee by the beach. Artemida (also known as Loutsa) is the closest seaside getaway from the city - and the best part? You can get there easily with public transport. No car, no stress, no big expenses.

Your Journey: Syntagma → Artemida

Step 1: Metro Line M3 - straight from the heart of Athens

Start at Syntagma Metro Station.
Take the M3 (Blue Line) heading towards Airport.
Get off at Nomismatokopio Station after about 20 minutes - that’s where you’ll catch your bus to the beach.

Step 2: Bus 304 or 305 - and off to the coast!

Exit the metro and find the nearby bus stop. You have two great options:

  • Bus 305 - direction Agios Nikolaos
Perfect if you want easy access to the lively part of Artemida. Get off at Palio Terma or Terma stops - just a short walk to the beach.

  • Bus 304 - direction Vravrona
Great if you prefer a quieter vibe and less crowded beach spots. This route takes you through more natural, peaceful areas.

Both routes will get you close to the water - just pick the stop that matches your beach mood!

How Long Does It Take and How Much Does It Cost?

  • Total travel time: around 1 hour 20 minutes

  • Ticket price: €1.20 for a 90-minute ticket (students and seniors: €0.50)

Important:
You only need to validate your ticket once - either at the metro station or when you board the bus.
No need to validate again when you switch from metro to bus!

Note:
The standard ticket does not cover the Airport Express bus lines, but you’re not heading to the airport - you’re heading to the beach!

Want to Get There Even Faster? Take a Taxi!

If you prefer extra comfort or just want to save time, grab a taxi (or UBER) from Syntagma.

  • Travel time: about 30 - 35 minutes

  • Cost: around €30 - 40, depending on traffic and time of day.

Why Artemida?

Because it’s real Greece - no crowded resorts, just locals, soft sand, nice waters, and beach bars serving cold coffee and fresh seafood. It’s the perfect spot to relax like a true Athenian.
