Cheap and Easy: How to Use the 24/7 Express Buses from Athens Airport

If you're arriving at Athens International Airport (ATH) and looking for the easiest way to reach the city center, the port of Piraeus, or intercity bus terminals, the Express Bus Lines are your most convenient and affordable option. These buses run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing direct, non-stop service between the airport and key points in the city.

Available Express Bus Routes from Athens Airport

Athens Airport is served by four dedicated Express bus lines that offer reliable connections to important city locations:

  • X95 – Airport to Syntagma Square (Athens city center)

  • X96 – Airport to Piraeus Port (for ferry connections to the islands)

  • X93 – Airport to Kifisou and Liosion intercity bus stations (KTEL buses to other regions in Greece)

  • X97 – Airport to Elliniko Metro Station (Red Line – Line 2 of the Athens Metro)

Each route offers a direct transfer with no need to change buses or trains.

Tickets and Payment Options

The one-way fare for all Express bus lines is €5.50. The ticket is valid for a single trip to or from the airport.

You can purchase your ticket from automatic ticket machines located at the airport and around the city. Please note that starting August 1, 2024, tickets will no longer be available for purchase onboard the Express buses. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance before boarding.

Contactless Payment - No Physical Ticket Required

As a convenient alternative, you can now pay directly by tapping a contactless bank card or mobile device (e.g., smartphone with Google Pay or Apple Pay) on the reader as you enter the bus.

There’s no need to carry an ATH.ENA card or paper ticket. Simply tap once when boarding.
The full fare of €5.50 applies for contactless payments as well.

Important Boarding Rules

Special boarding and alighting rules apply to Express bus lines:

  • On trips to the airport, only boarding is allowed. You cannot get off at intermediate stops.

  • On trips from the airport, only alighting is allowed. You cannot board along the way.

These rules apply at all times of day, on all lines.
