At around 200 meters above sea level, the hill of Agios Ioannis stands as the tallest point in both Artemida and nearby Spata. For locals, it's always been more than just a geographical landmark. It’s been a place of refuge, reflection, and perspective - both literally and spiritually.
The chapel was first built in the early 19th century, just as the first settlements in Spata were taking shape. That same little church still stands today, quietly drawing not only the faithful but also those simply seeking calm and inspiration under the wide, blue sky.

How to Get There
The hill is just a few minutes’ drive from the center of Artemida. You can easily reach it by car or scooter, and there’s a spacious parking area at the top. Right next to the chapel, you’ll find an information board and a contact number for the Parish of Agios Kosmas o Aitolos (also located in Artemida), which is in charge of organizing events at the site.
You don’t need to be into architecture or history to appreciate this place. All you need is a love for authenticity and beauty and Agios Ioannis will stay with you long after your visit.
